Training & Qualifications
You do not need formal mountaineering qualifications unless you want to instruct or guide.
A fully-qualified guide will be a member of the British Mountain Guides Association.
Mountaineering is not cheap and involves a large amount of gear. Waterproof and thermal clothing is essential, as well as a rucksack, map, compass and water bottle. To climb, a rope, harness, harness, special boots, a belay device, karabiners and more are needed.
Be careful when buying any 2nd hand equipment to ensure that this is not damaged or worn.
