What a view! 😮

Epic free-solo climbing with Dreaming of GnarInstagram is all sunshine and sending, but life isn’t. Recently this photo made its proper rounds on the Facebook share circuit, but it’s missing the backstory

Three times I’ve been knocked out of climbing for an extended period. Twice for injury (damn ropes!) and once due to life circumstances (damn jobs!)

Each one I came back stronger, regardless of what I could do when I came back initially. Hell, after Yosemite I was terrified on a 5.6 gym toprope. That was two years before this photo

Sometimes, when we get knocked down, it’s easier to get back up again than we estimate. Deciding to get up and go for it as best we can, whatever that may be.... that’s the crux! (Damn depression!)

So yeah, behind every send is a story. It’s not just sunshine and sending. And it’s not all me either. There’s luck. They tell me I should be dead after the falls I sustained, but I’m not. And everything broke in a way that facilitated rapid healing. I’m the world’s luckiest zombie

I did that in New Zealand. Hermitage I think. Really cool. Screwed if you go in by accident though. I think you have about two minutes before you are in a pretty bad way a long walk from help.
