Dragon Boat Racing
Dragon Boat Racing
Dragon boating is a team boating race with up to twenty paddlers in 40-foot boats. Participants row in unison to the beat of a drum, combining strength with teamwork.
Dragon boat racing is not about individual skills but about working with others as a team. Synchronicity is more important than strength to win against the other teams, making this an effective team building exercise, as well as a lot of fun!
The elaborate design of the boats originated more than 2000 years ago in ancient China with the hull painted to represent a dragon’s scales and the paddles symbolically representing the claws.
Apart from having fun, as a team building exercise, it is a good way to improve communications and get the team working together as a single unit, with everyone in the boat having a role to play.
