Loving Nature

The Tropical Butterfly House is home to amazing animals from all around the World, offering you the chance for an exciting close-up encounter. Take your family and see meerkats, lemurs, owls, wallabies, snakes, birds and many more species that remind us how beautiful a place Earth is.

If you are interested in a more interactive approach to nature’s treasures, you can visit Graves Park, where you will find a nice little farm, hosting some wonderful domestic animals as well as exotic wildlife species, like alpacas. The staff can also show you how to feed them – something that will really excite the kids.

Finally, there are the Botanic Gardens, housing more than 5,000 species of fauna – just ideal for a relaxing stroll surrounded by stunning rose gardens and rare flower scents.

Visit Sheffield Cathedral

Being the oldest building in Sheffield that is still in use, the city’s Cathedral draws its origin in 12th century medieval England. Currently a stunning amalgam of various architectural trends, whose most distinguished trait are the stained glass windows, narrating stories from the Bible, Sheffield Cathedral is truly magnificent.

A Climber’s Haven  

When it comes to climbing, Sheffield is the unrivalled scepter-holder in England. Having the peaks just a few minutes away from the city’s centre, experienced locals and visitors simply love this fascinating sport. If, on the other hand, you have just learned the basics, there are loads of places you can practice and gain experience.

First of all, there is the climbing boulder at Heeley Park, with available gear without charge. Then, there are several indoor facilities: Foundry Climbing, for example has over 200 routes, and more than 1,100 m2 of climbing walls, with special areas for children of all ages. The Edge Climbing Centre, on the other hand, houses over 150 marked routes and guarantees a unique indoor climbing experience.

The Awesome Walls Climbing Centre in another great option, which is more family–oriented, with a dedicated children’s climbing zone and 2 bouldering areas, but with plenty of advancement scope for veteran climbers to enjoy too, with over 300 routes across 104 lines.

Finally, there is the Climbing Works, Europe’s biggest bouldering centre, with a dedicated kid’s bouldering facility.

Accept the Sheffield Round Walk Challenge

If you have an entire day to spare, brace yourself and accept the Sheffield Round Walk challenge: a 14 – mile trek that passes through some of the most picturesque places in Sheffield, down from epic dams to steep woodland trails.

If your physical level is up to it, take your friends or mate and go for it.

A Skater’s City

If you love skating, then don’t forget your skateboard or skates before visiting Sheffield. There are several places designed to help you practice and improve your moves.

The Devonshire Green has a small skate park, open to the public, or you can try the House Skate park, a 10,500 ft2 warehouse that houses an array of street and pro style equipment for all levels of experience and skill, including a 16ft mini ramp with a moveable extension linked to an inverted hip flat bank, which in turn connects to a wall ride, a flat bank, a 8ft high quarter pipe and a 5ft quarter pipe end piece, plus a rail and a deathbox hooked to a 23ft long foot high grind box, a low driveway with long centre box and a rainbow rail, plus a 6ft high roll-in and a 12ft wide quarter pipe. You are allowed to bring rollerblades, razor scooters, snakeboards and roller boots.

Another great option is the Skate Central of Sheffield, which is a bit more family–oriented, with several themed sessions.

With Junior karting available, along with experienced trainers (ideal for children of at least 8 years old), and with all the necessary equipment provided, you will enjoy a day of sharp turns and endless fun. If you love competition, you can also print out your lap times and show them around to disbelieving friends.

Ice Skating

Sheffield National Ice Centre is a temple dedicated to those who love recreational ice skating or want to learn its secrets and magic.

With a Penguin Club for children of 1,5 to 5 years old that learns children to ice skate through playing, grownups have the time to enjoy their favorite sport, as well as Ice Hockey and, right beside, at Altitude an adventurous high ropes course with over 30 challenges (rope bridges, swinging logs, climbing walls etc). The Paradise Island Adventure Golf consists of almost nearly 14,000 square feet of Adventure Golfing, 2 golf courses and 2 separate levels of play.
